Ding Dong

Yesterday I wrote about the GOP attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act (link here), a proposal that Donald Trump is supporting which would threaten the healthcare of millions of Americans.

After my piece went up, the non-partisan Brookings Institution released a report (link here) indicated that 15 million Americans would immediately lose their health insurance under the proposed law, a figure that ultimately would rise to 32 million per year.

Several hours later yesterday, Republican Senator Susan Collins said she was likely to vote "no" on the bill (source here) and GOP Senator John McCain said he's a definite "no" (source here). Given Republican Senator Rand Paul has already said he's a "no" vote, that means the GOP repeal effort, aka Trumpcare, is almost certainly dead until after the 2018 midterms, at least.

If this holds, it will be a resounding victory for the American people and a stinging defeat for Trump. Ding dong the bitch is dead.

  2. In the meanwhile, many Americans struggling with their health are nervous and worried about how all this will end.

As I said yesterday, I cannot understand why your government cannot install a REAL UNIVERSAL healthcare PUBLIC system?

Canada isn't that populated (around 37 million people and 7 million in my province of Québec) and we ALL have a UNIVERSAL public healthcare system for many years now.

It seems that in USA the specter of «universal public» healthcare is seen as demoniac.

Why let those capitalist insurance companies get richer on the back of sick people and denying protection to the poor ones too.

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY is in stake here but not for the good ones.

Thank «my God» I live in Canada, a country that is taking care of its population with «social democratic» programs and legislations.
